My poor, special Lily...I can't believe I rescued her two years ago (September xxxx) and she still doesn't have a home! Here's her story: * Lily is a very special female adult kitty who was abandoned in a housing project in Brooklyn in the summer of xxxx. * I caught her in a trap as part of a feral cat trapping project only to discover that she was already spayed AND microchipped. They ear tipped her just in case she was going to be returned outside...but I couldn't bear to do that to her. * I had a feeling that she came from the Animal Care and Control (ACC) kill shelter...I called up the microchip company, who confirmed that her chip was registered to the ACC on Staten Island...we contacted them, and they denied having any record of her...they did not care to even help this poor cat that they adopted to a bad home who would later abandon her. * I took her home and she has been here ever since. She isn't too happy about living with a lot of other cats, but she is very well behaved. * Lily is a LAP CAT. She always wants to be in your lap, on your head, on your back, in your arms or right next to you. ALWAYS. Whoever had this girl did not abuse her--she was definitely loved--but in the end, they put her outside and left her for dead. * Lily has tested positive for FIV, yet she is healthy and is not sick at all (has never even caught a cold in two years) and is a good, solid weight. I suspect that she has had it for a while, as she was found on the street already spayed (it is transmitted through mating). This is probably also the reason why no one is breaking down the door to adopt her from me...I think that people are scared that she is sick, but she is healthy and fine. Please don't fear FIV....cats with this disorder can live a long, long time, incident free. Lily needs a loving, permanent home, one who will not abandon her when things get rough.
