Dutchess and Max, salvaged six months ago from a neighbor, were brought together to the care center because of the NYCHA ban. Both are indeed above the allowed maximum weight. Dutchess is the cutest, though. She has accumulated over the years lots of knowledge about us humans and as well about her peers. She is a bit stubborn and opinionated and may be a little of a drama queen. Duchess looks me up and down when I open her kennel door. She is stern. To get up or not? That is the question. Dutchess eventually gathers her strengths and lifts herself of her couch. She is leashed in no time and slowly, very slowly, we aim for the street. Dutchess goes around the block. Her breathing is noisy. She MUST loose weight. She watches the birds with indifference and does not mind two dogs passing us by. When time comes to go back to the care center, Dutchess makes herself as heavy as a mountain and it takes lots of treats to make her move again. Let's go to the yard. Dutchess is not thrilled about the stairs. She seems to like her freedom in a pen. Her eyes light up when she sees roast beef and she barks out of impatience when i do not feed her fast enough. Your Highness Dutchess. She likes to be petted, though. She makes sweet eyes and wags her tail. She lays down by my feet. She is tired from all this walking and moving around. Dutchess is quite a character. She stands out in the crowd and I can not help but fall for her. Still, Dutchess is an elderly who like all dogs her age, should not be in a shelter environment but in a home, respected and loved. Duchess has had her share of hardships and probably good times too. She lived in harmony with kids, cats and dogs. Well. a family dog... Will you be Dutchess' hero and offer her your heart and your home? She needs a quiet place to rest. I know there is still a lot of love in that ol' heart. Duchess is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming of a wonderful life with you.

Friendly, old, and overweight? trifecta!! Dutches couldn?t be more loving if she tried! This old gal is 10 years old, and weighs in at an astonishing 111 pounds!! Dutches is a loving chunk monkey, but she will definitely need to go on a diet to get down to a healthy weight. She has a wonderfully distinguished look with a gray mug, one ear up, and one ear down. None of this is the best part though? the best part is her superb personality!! Friendly as can be, Dutches is calm and loving. This wonderful girl is looking for an equally wonderful home to live out her golden years. Please pull Dutches from MACC today!!
